Stop the Sugar Attack
Here in the United States, we are obsessed with all things sweet. From BBQ sauce to chewing gum, sugar is a staple in the America diet. In fact, more than 50% of Americans admit to drinking 2 or more sodas daily . We have consistently seen an upward trend in early childhood caries which can be attributed to a number of things, one of which is our sugar-loving culture ! Keeping track of the amount of sugar your child eats will not only help you by reducing the hyper activity and subsequent crash that sugar causes, it will also help their teeth stay healthy. The worst sugary treats you can give your child are treats that remain in the mouth for a prolonged period such as suckers and gum with sugar. Simply replacing sugary gum with sugar-free gum is a step in the right direction for a healthy mouth! With all the sugar around us, parents may have a difficult time finding snacks children will enjoy that have less sugar.
