3 Reasons to See the Dentist (Plus 1 More Reason You Should)

Revised May 2021

A “no pain, no appointment” approach to your oral health can hurt you in the long run. Plan to see your dentist regularly every six months for preventive care check-ups and cleanings and not just when you have a toothache.

Let us count the why’s

  1. So Fresh, So Clean

Only a professional cleaning from the dentist or dental hygienist will give you that squeaky-clean feeling. But it’s more than a feeling! Not only does the surface of your teeth get a good scraping and polishing, but tartar is removed from above and below the gum line, which helps prevent ailments like gum disease.

  2. Mama Said So

Routine is good for you. Did your mom or you parents schedule regular dental appointments for you when you were little? Keep the habit or get into it again. Self-discipline is a good thing as it’s been proven that people respond to and thrive with a routine. So if you’ve neglected those visits to the dentist every six months, make it a new habit—it’s a good one.

  3. FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)

Be afraid, be very afraid of what could happen if you don’t. A mouth full of cavities? Missing teeth? Gum disease? Visiting the dentist on a regular basis can prevent those ailments and so much more.

  4. Bonus Reason: It Does the Body Good

Your mouth is a window to your overall health. A healthy mouth can prevent or alleviate serious health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.

In addition, your dentist can detect signs of nutritional deficiencies, general infections and even more serious systemic diseases.
