Why We're Wild about Watermelon

Revised, May 2021

Summertime brings out the sweet tooth in all of us. From ice cream to snow cones, there’s certainly no shortage of tempting treats to choose from. Unfortunately, many of our favorites are high in sugar and fat.

Why not try a snack that’s sweet, delicious and healthy for teeth, eyes and gums?

Let us count the ways we’re wild about watermelon!

  1. Watermelon contains 90% water, which is good for hydration – and your teeth. Fruits and veggies with high water content help wash away food particles and bacteria from your teeth, which can help neutralize harmful acids in the mouth and prevent cavities.
  2. Watermelon contains more lycopene than any other fresh fruit or vegetable. This antioxidant is likely to lower the risk for cancer, heart disease and age-related eye disorders.
  3. Watermelon contains plenty of vitamins A and C—important for healthy eyes and gums.
  4. Watermelon is low in sugar even though it tastes sweet. That’s great news for your teeth and gums.
  5. Some of the best watermelons are grown right here in Arkansas. The annual watermelon festivals in Cave City and Hope draw huge crowds from near and far.

We’re also wild about providing world-class service as Arkansas’s premier provider of affordable dental and vision insurance with access to one of the state’s and country’s largest dental networks. Check out our plans for individuals and families and small, medium and large companies.
