Smile and Say “Cheese…Dip!"
You can sample dozens of cheese dips this weekend at Arkansas’ World Cheese Dip Championship! The biggest cheese dip competition in the world, the Cheese Dip Championship hosts thousands of people each year. But did you know that this creamy concoction was created in Arkansas?
Blackie Donnely, a Little Rock restaurant owner, invented cheese dip in 1935. The popularity of cheese dip grew, and is now available at most restaurants across the South.
Cheese is a delicious way to get your daily dose of calcium, a mineral crucial for a healthy body, bones and teeth. Your body can’t make its own calcium, so the only way to get enough is to eat calcium-rich foods, such as cheese.
This tooth-healthy food is good for your grin too! The calcium in cheese helps put minerals back into your teeth that might have been lost due to other foods. Cheeses such as Swiss, aged cheddar, blue, Monterey Jack, Brie and Gouda have all been shown to reduce tooth decay.
Remember, cheese is just one of the many foods that make up a balanced and healthy diet. Learn more about other smile-healthy foods.
