How to Do Maternity Leave Like A Boss
While we know not every new mommy can afford to take time out of the office, if you are lucky enough to have a chunk of time to spend away from work when your little one arrives, we’ve got some great tips on how to manage it with grace.
1. Talk to HR
Time away from work is crucial for both baby and mommy, according to a recent study. Be sure to find out the details of your health and dental benefits and check out this checklist of questions to ask HR about maternity leave.
2. Set Expectations
You’re going to be sleep deprived and dealing with a body that does things it’s not used to—like leaking milk! Mentally prepare yourself. You will feel underprepared and that’s O.K! Set realistic expectations for your to-do list the first few weeks.
3. Prepare Now
You can do helpful things while you’re still pregnant! Here are some ideas:
• Make meals now and freeze them. Here are some healthy freezer friendly recipes.
• Stock up on healthy, non-perishable snacks in bulk and store:
° Toilet paper
° Paper towels
° Shampoo, conditioner
° Laundry detergent
° Dishwashing detergent
• Pre-wash baby clothes
• Take your stroller for a test-drive.
4. Prearrange Help
Talk to your loved ones in advance and get your sitters situated. Make a list of things that might be helpful, like grocery shopping, meal preparation, household chores, and LAUNDRY.
Most importantly, take tons of pictures of that toothless grin and enjoy this special time with your newborn.
