Happy 4th of July!
The 4th of July has been a cause for celebration since the inception of the Declaration of Independence declaring our freedom from the British Empire. Americans have been celebrating with parades and fireworks since the days of Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, so there is no good reason to stop anytime soon. Besides the usual fireworks displays sure to be happening all over the state of Arkansas, the 4th of July is a great day to spend time with your family and friends. This year, July 4thfalls right in the middle of the week on a Wednesday. Since there is not a 3-day weekend this year, we have come up with a few activities you can do to celebrate Independence Day without having to travel very far!
- Barbecue – It is always a fun time to gather friends and family for a good old fashioned barbeque. You can grill burgers and hot dogs or even get fancy with steak and veggies. Buy the kids some water balloons and you are in for a real treat this 4th of July!
- Make patriotic food – Teach your children the basics of making patriotic desserts by having them help you in the kitchen. You can make white chocolate dipped strawberries with blue sprinkles...delicious! Or make a cake and decorate it with strawberries and blueberries in the shape of a flag. There are endless possibilities and your children will enjoy the creativity needed to make these red, white and blue snacks.
- Hit the lake – Don’t feel like staying indoors during the hot Arkansas summer? Visit one of the many lakes in Arkansas to cool off. Fish, swim or canoe your way to an enjoyable 4th of July with your family!
