Granting Smiles Across Arkansas
The Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation approved over $200,000 worth of grants to be awarded to deserving dental clinics and organizations across the state. The Foundation grants will touch many lives across Arkansas by improving dental care access, replacing dilapidated equipment and even providing dental care to heart transplant patients who otherwise may not have been able to receive their new heart. The 15 grant recipients, listed below, include organizations such as the UALR Children’s International Future Smiles Dental Clinic which received $15,000 from the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation. The Future Smiles Dental Clinic, located at Wakefield Elementary, opened in 2005 as the first school-based dental clinic in Arkansas. The clinic offers dental screenings, sealants, fluoride varnish, comprehensive dental care, toothbrush kits and oral health education to low-income students at five elementary schools and two middle schools in the Little Rock School District. It is also a wonderful learning opportunity for junior and senior dental hygiene students who rotate through the clinic as part of their curriculum at UAMS Department of Dental Hygiene. Delta Dental of Arkansas strives to make dental insurance affordable so every Arkansan has the opportunity to get the dental care they need. However, there are still many Arkansans who are uninsured and many who live in underserved areas without access to dental care. As the leading dental benefits provider in Arkansas, Delta Dental is aware of these needs and will continue to seek out new opportunities that will make a significant impact in improving the dental health of all Arkansans.
