Celebrate 4th of July at Pops on the River!
What do you remember about George Washington? He was the nation’s first president, yet refused to be king. He’s the face on our one-dollar bill. And he had wooden teeth, right? Wrong! According to mountvernon.org, the resource for everything George Washington, he only used the best material for his dentures and it wasn't wood. No one disputes George Washington had poor dental health. He had toothaches and tooth loss. In fact, he had only one real tooth when he became the first U.S. president in 1789. Because of his dental problems, President Washington trusted his teeth to the best of the best. Dr. John Baker created the first partial denture made of ivory for Washington, followed by work done by Pierre La Mayeur, a French dentist and friend of the president. But it was Dr. John Greenwood, an innovator in American dentistry, who made Washington his first full set of dentures out of hippopotamus ivory. So as you celebrate July 4th this year, be happy your teeth are healthy and work to keep them that way by brushing and flossing regularly. Eat healthy foods and limit sweets, starches and sticky foods that can cause tooth decay. And if you’re in Little Rock, consider celebrating July 4th at the 30th Annual Pops on the River. Join in for food, fireworks, fun and great music. Pops on the River is FREE to the public and will begin at noon outside the main gates of the Riverfest Amphitheater in the River Market Pavilions. Make sure you visit the Delta Dental Smile Booth from 5:30-8:30 in the Pavilions to get a fun, 4th of July photostrip with your friends and family. Also, keep an eye out for the Delta Dental Smile Cam which will be roaming the grounds to snap great pictures that you can download later from our Facebook page!
